Members and invitations#
An organisation can have more than one person in it. Everyone in the organisation sees the same checks, heartbeats, monitors, notification channels and results, and can change any of them. The one exception is who is in the organisation, which only its owner can change.
The owner is the account that created the organisation at signup. Ownership can’t be transferred yet, and the owner can’t be removed from their own organisation.
How many people an organisation can hold depends on its plan — see Plans and billing.
Inviting someone#
You’ll find everything on this page under Members on Organisation settings. The Invite a member button is only there for the organisation’s owner.
- Choose Invite a member, enter their email address, and send.
- They’re emailed a link. It works whether or not they already have an account — you don’t need to know, and every invitation sends the same email.
- The link expires after 24 hours.
If your plan’s member limit is already reached, the invitation is refused before anything is sent. The limit is checked again when the link is followed, since it can change in between.
What the invitee sees#
Following the link, they land on a page that depends on who they are:
- No account yet — they’re offered Create an account, which asks only for a password (no organisation name to invent) and joins them to your organisation rather than creating a new one.
- An account, not logged in — they’re asked to Log in, then brought back to accept.
- An account, already logged in — they see an Accept invitation button.
Accepting adds them to your organisation. If they belong to other organisations too, they can switch between them from the menu in the navigation bar — see Organisation and account settings.
A platform administrator account can’t join an organisation; an invitation sent to one is refused when the link is opened.
Managing pending invitations#
An invitation that’s been sent but not yet accepted or expired appears under Pending invitations, with the date it was sent and when it expires:
- Resend — mails the same address a fresh link. The previous link stops working, so there’s never more than one live link for an address.
- Revoke — cancels it. The link stops working immediately.
Removing a member#
Un-link on a member’s row removes them from your organisation. Their account still exists and any other organisations they belong to are unaffected; they just can no longer see or act on yours. If yours was the organisation they had open, they’re moved to another of theirs, or, if they have none, told they don’t belong to an organisation.
You can’t un-link the owner.
